We monitor integration at the national and local levels and thereby assess what is working, what is not, and how the situation is changing over time. This provides a mechanism for comparing outcomes across local authority areas; assessing progress at the nationally; and the examination of Ireland’s performance at EU level.

We have developed the first national monitoring framework and tool for Ireland. It uses integration indicators with the goal of assisting government at local and national levels to meet its monitoring obligations.

The national framework uses indicators in the following areas to gain an overall view of integration in Ireland: education, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment.

The local level model links to the national and includes additional indicators and measures outside, but complementary to, those agreed to under the Stockholm Programme. This allows local authorities and agencies to gain a deeper understanding of how service providers are responding to the needs of immigrant groups and what the trends and needs are at city and county levels.
