Employments permit requirements:

• Nationals of EU/ EEA countries/ Swiss are entitled to work or be self-employed in Ireland, without an employment permit or any further restrictions.

• Nationals of Romania or Bulgaria that arrive Ireland must obtain an employment Permit for a consecutive period of 12 months.

• Other nationals (Non- EU/EEA) must apply for a Green Card Permit or Work Permit to be eligible for employment.

• A Green card permit is issued to any occupation with an annual salary of €60,000 and above;   or a restricted list of occupation with an annual salary level of €30,000 – €59,999.

• A work permit is issued for occupations with a salary of €30,000 or above, where Green Card Permits are not available, and in exceptional cases, in the salary level below €30,000.

• If you are a Non-EU/EEA national living in Ireland with a residence permit, you are eligible to work under the Stamp 4 status attached to your permit.

• Spouse or dependant permit for employment is issued to family members of Green card / work permit holders. Please note that employment within this status is subject to a Labour Market Test.

• Under the Irish Employment Acts 1998-2006, Refugees and people on Leave to Remain in Ireland are permitted to work. But people seeking asylum are restricted from employment.

This Publication is an Action Research Project that addresses the difficulties faced by skilled job seeking Immigrants. It outlines the factors that can impede the employment of Immigrants such as discrimination and lack of information. The publication is a European project co-financed under the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals.
