6th January 2011

In order to develop and increase awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding sectarianism and racism in County Louth, the Louth Minority Ethnic Consortium (LMEC) has been established to focus on the needs of minority ethnic communities in the County.

Tinu Achioya, development officer for the consortium said “The LMEC aims to develop a partnership approach which will address issues of difference, ethnicity, culture and religion; explore issues of racism and sectarianism; and support conflict resolution and mediation, at the local community level in Co Louth and on a North/South basis”.

The lead partner in the project is the national network organisation The Integration Centre, working alongside a number of local partners in County Louth. The Integration Centre - Connecting Communities Advancing Integration is committed to the integration and inclusion of people from immigrant backgrounds in Ireland.

The Consortium has secured funding through Louth County Council Peace III Partnership under the Special European Programme Body to focus on building increased levels of trust, tolerance and community cohesion in local communities and on a cross border basis.

Louth Minority Ethnic Consortium is based in Dundalk, Co. Louth.
