An Upcoming Review of Human Rights in Ireland

02.02.11
A number of civil society organisations, including The Integration Centre were, present in the Wood Quay venue, to support the launch of the ‘Your Rights-Right Now’ campaign’ on Monday 31st January.

The ongoing campaign is being coordinated by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, in anticipation of the upcoming review of human rights in Ireland.

In October this year, the United Nations Human Rights Council under the Universal Periodic Review will examine, for the first time, the human rights record in Ireland. The purpose of the UN Human Rights Council is to examine violations of human rights and make recommendations as applicable.

As a response to this, seventeen civil society organisations have joined forces in the form of a steering group to highlight and challenge the government on the situation of human rights in Ireland. The ‘Your Rights-Right Now’ campaign intends to produce a report on human rights issues in Ireland, to be submitted to the United Nations in March 2011.

To further promote public awareness of human rights issues in Ireland, public information campaigns will be organised in Dublin, Galway, Donegal, Cork, Limerick and Waterford.
